Innovation for South African Telecommunications
Innovation for South African Telecommunications
The Rationale
Large firms existing within the technological sphere of influence have been strong-armed into creating long-lasting innovative practices as part of their daily tasks and duties. Creating an innovation function creates a leverage-able tool that is long-lasting and able to adapt to circumstances consistently.
The Strategists were approached by one of the leading Telco firms in South Africa with the task of developing and crafting an innovation strategy that is situated within the firm itself.
The Method
Our team took up the mantle and was tasked with developing the reward and innovation policy. This led to a CEO challenge proposed on our behalf where a formalised “Dragon’s Den” was created with members of our team representing the subject matter experts regarding innovation as well as leaders from the firm itself. The idea was to provoke innovation capacity internally for the firm itself to implement its own concepts and ideas based on innovation.
The Den was then approached by a set of teams proposing innovation concepts and strategies where the top five groups were selected and adapted into a further process that saw the adaptation of their ideas into a more executable strategy going forward. This saw our team engaging in a hackathon with the leading, successful teams to further develop and establish these innovation strategies.
The winning team of the event was then utilised and their idea was proposed to the executive team which then implemented two separate plans based on this event.
